A driver tells a new CDL student that ABS lets you drive faster and follow other vehicles more closely because it will stop the truck quicker. Why is this advice wrong?

AAMVA CDL Manual, Section 5, subsection 5.4.2 (p. 5-8) and Section 6, subsection 6.3.2 (p. 6-7), 'Braking with Antilock Brakes' / 'Braking with ABS'

Why This Matters

This is one of the most commonly missed concepts on the air brakes exam because ABS sounds like it should make aggressive driving safer. In reality it is a control-retention tool for emergency braking only, and it never compensates for following too closely, driving too fast for conditions, or poor brake maintenance.
