While testing the tractor protection valve, you charge the system, shut off the engine, and pump the brake pedal repeatedly to bleed down tank pressure. At what point should the trailer air supply control pop out (or move to "emergency")?

AAMVA CDL Manual, Section 6.5.2, p. 6-14 ("Test Tractor Protection Valve")

Why This Matters

The tractor protection valve exists to stop a trailer air leak or breakaway from draining the tractor's own air supply. If it pops late, or not until the tanks are nearly empty, the tractor itself could lose enough pressure that its brakes can no longer be applied, turning a trailer-side leak into a total loss of braking for the whole combination.
