Why does the CDL manual instruct drivers to never load a cargo tank totally full?
Tanker (N) Endorsement • Free CDL Practice Question
Regulation
49 CFR 383.119(i) (operating practices and procedures not otherwise specified); AAMVA CDL Manual ยง8.2.6, p.8-8-2.
Why This Matters
If a cargo tank has no room for the liquid to expand as temperatures rise, pressure can build up inside the tank with nowhere to go, which is why outage is treated as a mandatory loading calculation rather than a suggestion.
