You're hauling a tanker of UN1830 Sulfuric Acid when a fitting fails and acid begins dripping onto the pavement at a rest area. You have work gloves and some absorbent pads in your truck. No one is hurt and traffic is light. What should you do?

Why This Matters

Drivers aren't equipped or trained to safely patch a leaking corrosive line or repackage a hazardous material in the field, even with basic gloves and pads on hand. The job at an incident is to keep people safe and get accurate information into the hands of people who are trained and equipped to handle the material. Attempting a DIY fix can turn a contained drip into a chemical exposure injury for the driver or bystanders.
