You're driving a cargo tank (bulk packaging) hauling a hazardous material. Under the bulk packaging marking rules, where and how must the identification number appear on the tank?

Regulation

49 CFR 172.302 (placement — two opposite sides, or each side and each end for tanks of 1,000 gal/3,785 L or more); 49 CFR 172.332 (numeral specifications: 100 mm on orange panels, 88 mm on placards); AAMVA CDL Manual Sec. 9.5.1 (nhcdm.pdf p.9-11)

Why This Matters

A responder arriving at a rolled-over cargo tank won't always approach from the rear, and may never reach the cab to find shipping papers. The two-opposite-sides rule with oversized numerals exists so the identification number, and the ERG guide it unlocks, is readable from whichever side is safe to approach.
