When can I use a DANGEROUS placard instead of specific hazard class placards?
Under 49 CFR 172.504, you can use a DANGEROUS placard for a mixed load of two or more Table 2 hazard classes, as long as no single class reaches 2,205 pounds at one loading location. Once any one class hits that weight, you need its specific placard instead.
What is the difference between a hazmat label and a hazmat placard?
A label goes on the individual package and is small, while a placard goes on the vehicle itself and is a 250mm diamond under 49 CFR 172.519. They can show the same hazard class symbol, but they serve different purposes and different sizes.
