Online ELDT theory counts in every state

ELDT is a federal rule (49 CFR Part 380), not a state one. A $15 theory completion from ELDT.IO, an FMCSA-registered online provider, is valid in all 50 states and DC. Every DMV checks the same federal Training Provider Registry before your CDL skills test or hazmat knowledge test.

What's federal and what's state

Federal (same everywhere): the ELDT requirement itself, the theory topics, the 80% passing score, and the registry your record goes on.

State (varies): permit rules and waiting periods, the knowledge and skills tests, fees, medical card handling, and whether your DMV wants theory before or after the permit. Check your state DMV's CDL page for those details.

Where drivers get stuck is usually not the ELDT record. It is a state step done out of order. If your DMV says it cannot see your completion, ask them to look up your license number on the registry directly, and reload the page. How to verify your record.

Where our drivers come from

Drivers from Texas, Florida, California, Illinois, Colorado, Mississippi, Maine, New Hampshire and more have completed ELDT.IO courses and had their records reported to FMCSA. New states appear every month.

Chris, who built the course, has held a Class A in New Hampshire since 2007 and has driven through most of the Northeast and beyond. If you have a state-specific question, email info@eldt.io.

$15 once. Take one course or all four. Any state. Pick your course.

Common questions about states

Is online ELDT accepted in my state?

Yes. The federal rule applies in all 50 states and DC. Every DMV checks the same FMCSA registry.

Does ELDT vary by state?

The federal requirement is the same everywhere. What varies is the state permit process, waiting periods, tests, and fees. Check your state DMV for those details.

Do I need to do ELDT in the state where I get my CDL?

No. You can use any registered online provider. Your state DMV checks the federal registry regardless of which provider you used.

My DMV says it cannot find my record. What do I do?

Ask them to search by your license number directly on the registry, and reload the page to clear any cached results. If it still does not appear, email info@eldt.io.
