A banked curve has a posted speed limit that is safe for passenger cars. Why might that same speed still be unsafe for a bus?

49 CFR 383.117(a)(6), operating practices and procedures not otherwise specified; AAMVA CDL Manual Section 4.3.4 "Speed on Curves," p.4-3

Why This Matters

Posted curve speeds are set for cars, not for tall, heavy buses. A driver who treats the posted number as automatically safe can take a curve far too fast, especially in wet or icy weather, and crashes on curves are among the deadliest kinds of bus collisions.
