How to Verify an Online ELDT Provider Before You Pay
Check FMCSA's Training Provider Registry before you pay anyone for ELDT. That's the one thing that actually makes a course count toward your CDL, and you can look it up yourself in under two minutes.

One registry, not a badge on a website
Under 49 CFR Part 380, a training provider has to be listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry, the TPR, to legally offer ELDT. Not a logo. Not a claim on the homepage. An actual listing you can look up yourself.
The registry is public. You don't need an account, a login, or anyone's permission to check it. Go to tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Provider/Search, search the provider by name, and confirm they're actually there.
What the listing tells you, and what it doesn't
A real TPR listing shows the provider's name and whether they're registered to offer the training type you're buying, online theory, behind-the-wheel, or both. Match that against what you're about to pay for. A provider listed only for behind-the-wheel instruction has no business selling you an online theory course.
The listing won't rate the quality of the course or tell you if it's a good value. That part's still on you.
Why removal matters more than you'd think
FMCSA doesn't just add providers to the TPR and walk away. Under 49 CFR 380.721, a provider can be removed for failing to meet or maintain requirements, and in fraud cases, training completed after the removal date can be invalidated retroactively.
Read that again. Retroactively. If you finish a course today and your provider gets pulled from the registry tomorrow for fraud, your completion can stop counting after the fact, through no fault of your own.
That's not a reason to panic. It's a reason to check before you pay, not after.
After you finish, not just before
FMCSA also runs a separate tool for checking a completed training record directly, at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/check. It's worth bookmarking once you've actually bought a course somewhere.
Where we stand in all this
ELDT.IO is listed on the TPR, and we'd rather you check that yourself than take our word for it. See our verification page for the specifics, or just run the search above.

Questions people ask
Is online ELDT legit?
It can be, but only if the provider is listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry (TPR). Anyone can build a website and call it ELDT training. Only a TPR listing makes training legally count toward your CDL.
How do I know a provider is FMCSA-approved?
Search the provider by name at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Provider/Search and confirm they're listed for the training type you're buying, such as online theory. You can also check a completed training record directly at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/check.
What happens if my provider gets removed from the registry?
Under 49 CFR 380.721, FMCSA can remove a provider for failing to meet or maintain requirements, including fraud, and training completed after the removal date can be considered invalid, including retroactively in fraud cases. That's why checking before you pay matters more than checking afterward.
