Questions about Vehicle Inspection & Loading

What is the standee line and where is it on a bus?

The standee line is a line, strip, or marking inside a bus that shows the forward limit for standing riders. Under 49 CFR 393.90, it has to run at least 2 feet from the front of the bus, parallel to the front doorwell, and if it's a painted line it must be at least 2 inches wide and a color that contrasts with the floor. Riders can't stand in front of it.

Where can't bus riders put their carry-on baggage?

Riders can't leave carry-on baggage in the aisle, in the stairwell, or blocking an emergency exit. Under 49 CFR 383.117(a)(1), baggage and freight have to be secured in a way that doesn't block the driver's view, interfere with controls, or keep riders from getting out in an emergency.
